I can't recall using it either outside of academic contexts. Well...I'm sure there's plenty real life examples though. You have either cake OR soda, but not both. If you do youre a glut. If you take neither you're a prude. Anyhow just saw LegalStar's comment and it reminded me that ^ is not the exponent operator in Python (it's **) but something I was unaware of...so I looked it up and found out ^ performs the XOR operation.
